AIDS benefit for Haoui
Haoui Montaug died of AIDS after decades on the New York music and nightlife scene – he once hired me as a bouncer at Danceteria – and I was honoured to cover a benefit show in his name for MTV News on June 20, 1992. The show starred Butthole Surfers, Soul Asylum, Prong and Diamanda Galas and featured appearances by Fred Schneider of the B-52’s and rapper Ice-T.
